Chronic back pain can have a simple cause: Pelvic obliquity resulting from leg length inequality. The resulting structure defect of the spine is compensated for a length of time, as a possible difference in leg length is largely compensated by neuromuscular reflex control whereby the center of gravity is corrected, but due to the angle of the pelvis dynamic changes are apparent.

Due to these findings it is extremely important to test all patients suffering from chronic back pain for pelvic obliquity. For this very reason the Pelvic Scale was developed and produced. With just one investigative test localization and extent of leg length inequality can be established.

To correct a discrepancy of more than 1 cm the heel of the shoe should be raised, to correct pelvic obliquity and its consequences. this can be done using medesign heel wedges.

The pelvic scale is placed with both its swivel arms, dorsal or ventral, on the iliac crest and held in this position by applying equal pressure on both sides. Tare the scale beam. In the case of pelvic obliquity the difference in leg length is displayed between the scale beam and the scale division. The ascertained value is the basis for the required adjustment.
