Orchiometer

medesign's Orchiometer is a simple but important instrument for measuring testicular volume - for paediatricians, endocrinologists, andrologists and all other physicians evaluating male pubertal development or dealing with fertility disorders.

Testicular volume directly correlates with testicular function and spermiogenesis. Measuring testicular volume is useful when assessing the degree of maturation in the case of normal as well as delayed puberty. Measuring testicular volume, furthermore, allows for distinction between Pubertas praecox and Pseudopubertas praecox (where the testicles remain small).

The Orchiometer is also of great importance in infecundity consultation. Normal spermiogenesis can only be expected with a testicular volume of at least 12 ml, while the normal production of testosterone is also possible with abnormally small testicles. In many cases the Orchiometer can replace elaborate and invasive examinations (e. g. spermiogram, testicular biopsy, hormone analysis). In other cases it can indicate the necessity of implementing of such measures.
